Who Ate My Buffer?

This article refers to the painful problem of buffer management in outsourced fixed bids. In most fixed-price projects, even the successful ones, this problem is a mutual problem - the customer feels that the provider is trying to minimize costs and maximize the project margin, while the provider feels that the customer is trying to widen the project scope by posting change requests disguised as bugs. In most cases, both sides are right!

This presentation outlines Ignite’s approach to this problem offering a clear-box pricing model which is a combination of the pros in Fixed-price projects with the pros of the Time and Materials model. It was given in one of the Israeli Software Development Managers Forum (SD Forum).
